Prefer bleeps over bloops? Stomp over unz? Boing over dojoing? hum over static? Chip tune genre wars on three oscillators. |

Quoting IsildurD'N'B or Techno? That's unclear, coz d'n'b IS NOT TECHNO :) Indeed, it's quite a bit of a misnomer.
My understanding is that the 2nd instalment of the "Techno Compo" now focuses on Drum'n'Bass, as opposed to Oldschool Underground Techno in the first one.
That said... C-64 DnB tracks usually suffer from the usual 50 Hz update rate on PAL systems.
Any ruling word on multispeed or arbitrary update rates not tied to video frames? |

Multispeed was not an issue during previous edition. And, indeed, single VBL is not the greatest friend of typical DnB speeds. Hence I don't give a single (LOL) fuck and go for 150bpm. At least for one entry ;) |

Just wanna say, that back in the day (beginning of the 90s), we used TECHNO as general grouping name for most electronic dance music, and back then many different styles: trance, ambient, electro, IDM, breaks, even jungle fell under that grouping. Later it changed because it grew.
Similar in a sense to how nowadays some people use the (idiotic) EDM moniker to group all styles together, whereas for me EDM is just stupid arena shitty popstuff. |

If you read the event announcement page carefully, you can see that it was already mentioned, in a solution-seeking manner, that techno tends to be 4x4, unlike drum'n'bass, silently acknowledging the fact that they are indeed different. Multispeed is also explicitly allowed there, and I guess that covers "arbitrary" updates as well, knock yourself out!
The specific term "drum and bass" was really the only option in order to be able to make the pun about the third channel. Otherwise it might have been "Breakin' SIDs" or "Micro Jungle Rave Step" or "Funky Drummer Says Amen".
Discussion on the definition of genres and what exactly was the style of Juan Atkins in 1984 is of course COMPLETELY ON POINT! I mean, it really goes with the territory doesn't it?
If you need a pure genre reference, then your only option is Breakcore. |

DnB IS 4/4, just syncopated ;) Unless you make it not 4x4 :D |

For whom it may concern: at least for the german language area, there exists a very strict standard to what elements define "techno", recorded in this historical document https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnlR0BcZ8qc |

@Groepaz: Please read the Unterhaltungsrichtlinien DIN Norm 909, Absatz Elektronische Unterhaltungsmusik - §303 at all times there has to be entertainment within a measurable range plus a cooled Biergetränk or else verboten & draconian fee. |

Still somewhat confused as to the expected style.
Quoting deetsayThe specific term "drum and bass" was really the only option in order to be able to make the pun about the third channel. Otherwise it might have been "Breakin' SIDs" or "Micro Jungle Rave Step" or "Funky Drummer Says Amen". Most entries seem to ignore the DnB/breakbeat/jungle/amen bit entirely, while the judge seems to sit squarely on DnB.
So is it a "Techno" or "Drum'n'Bass" or both/anything compo now? =) |

I thought the "Bass" part was only for the pun *shrug*. But to be honest I don't know what either Techno or Drum'n'Bass is anyway – as you can clearly see on my "trying to figure it out" entries ;-) But GI-Joe hasn't given up on me and posts me a lot of links to tutorials via Signal XD |

The definitive answer is that no-one will be disqualified because of "wrong genre", so YOU should just go and do your thing NOW. If WINNING is your primary motivation then you should note that Muffler is the judge, and based on his discography I think it's safe to assume he appreciates drum AND bass. But who knows? Maybe he is a total gabberhead. |

I'm still hoping for a THCMod "true DnB" banger, though. |

I was at No u turn when "ed" turned up.. as I knew nico..
(they were local to London to me.. i'm at x95 with another dnb label jacket on..) .. the "blueprint" (R) .. others followed.
don't worry krill.. he hasn't got a clue what an IRQ is let alone a loader :)
you still rock on that front ;-) |

If i ever meet them, i'd congratulate them to have made some of the best tunes in the golden era of DnB and maybe pester them about the production process and their studio gear of the time or something. =) |

hhmm BEN "ed" wouldn't be so well known all without Nico.. learn the history of no u turn. much of "prototype years" , many tracks nico was involved with.. I was supposed to do their website, thats how I got to know them.
other labels were more "on point" i will say though.
I was more involved down the road with pioneers ;-) .. LONG before them guys showed up.
got loads of well known labels on my doorstep and knew a producer / engineer who worked for a fair few.. hence why i got to know them.
I was trying to play you a compliment.. chin up |

That is correct, Muffler has chosen the top 3 and the rest have been assigned by CSDB votes, and all will be revealed in Vincenzo's show tomorrow (Sat) 17:00 Hungarian time!

A quick note: I compiled the order of tracks for the live set before I knew the results. So it's not going to be in any order but what I thought would make sense in a musical/genre/live set way.
The plan is to announce the winner(s) during the party's prizegiving ceremony, just like the techno compo was part of the competitions. |

Joke aside while still listening to your mix: you did an awesome job compiling it all together! You have my deep respect. I guess it wasn't that easy with all those different type of techno tunes. |

I'm not a dj and especially not experienced with playing live on stage. But as usual, I did my best to grow up to the expectations and provide a proper live mix. Here's a capture of the set, hope you enjoy it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG5r-T2Om5Y |
