Coding while you're drunk
Hi,
What do you think about coding while being drunk (up to a degree, or down to a degree, matter of view :)
It mostly works with music, but...
I remember coding was flawless and came by 'instinct' while I was moderately drunk sometimes.... how come... I'll never now...
It would be really interesting to see releases from coders breaking down ther brains to bare thoughts then building up intuitive wonderful things...
Kinda paradoxon, but might work. I think there are coders who never drink beer/whine...then what about meditation or coding just after wakin'up?!
Let's imagine: Drunk Demo competition :) LoooLler...
(of course there's no way to check drunkenity, but I don't care :)
now, shame on me for bringing something like this...
but I might code a demo as a result... who knows... |

I used to be able to reach the Ballmer Peak. Nowadays it's more crap like Skovpladderballe and 3th Dimention that comes out of drunk coding, so I clearly should stop. |

Ah yes, the Ballmer Peak. Note that the global maximum is at precisely .1337% BAC. ;-) |

Luckily I cannot code at all - cracking works fine on any condition however. Just make sure the higher the level of blood alcohol the worse should the program be you are trying to "improve" :)
Anything goes being stoned - of course! |

If anyone is interested.. the "Spik i foten" series were typically created during serious drunkness during a weekend at Vodka's place, as he was the first one to get his own flat.. Some parts were of course coded before, but then linking was always done in "disturbed" mode, as well as writing scroll text of course :). In later years, i think "PartyPig" and "PartyDog" are the only demos totally made during some influence of alcohol. "Andropolis" and "Mekanix" both have a scent of beer since we teamed up before the party, and had a BBQ while finishing the demo :).
..but i would not say i become a better coder when drunk. |

Solving a coding/structuring problem during sleep can really work. But for me it was really a bad experience dreaming about codes and trying to get them work. That sleep was ruined, especially before waking up. The brain works at 500% while subconscious gets more into the foreground, I guess.
Isn't really like "dreaming about code".
Do you know that is impossible to "don't think" about something? (<- read twice..)
Now, you DON'T think to a big yellow elephant with red stripes...
...
I know that you NOW can paint a picture of the elephant to which i asked you NOT TO think about.
If you want to "don't think" you need to think at something else.
So brain "still working" also if you "don't think", but if he is given nothing to do, he thinks about "what he wants" and perhaps that is useless and harmful ...
Then... why don't use this "idle power" to code?
Still active also during sleep and it's free of charge... =P |

Well whatever. Dreaming about code is sth completely different from drunken coding imho. Dreaming or just reflecting code without coding a single byte for a few days can really help/lead to great ideas and problem solutions imho.
BTT: Especially if sth has to be finished or fixed or just crunched and linked at a certain deadline on a party turned out rather tough for me when being drunk. However, it never really stopped me from getting boozed. A miracle how some things were finished at all (probably with additional bugs unheard of compared to the state of the code before the boozing started).
In everyday life, I think drunken coding is not the only way to code, but sometimes(!) it might help to get the right "I don't care" attitude to try out things I wouldn't even dare trying sobre.

Yeah, a live competition at Bunker, from scratch, you on alc vs me on THC (not really my cup of tea at all), bet I'll lose, anyway ;) |

I always imagine new effects just before I go to sleep. This works like a lullaby :) |
