the basement was very crammed last time, and it may happen that even more ppl are going to attend x'12 i guess.
just my 2 cents :)
other than that - its great to know those dates this early. thanks for organizing such a great event to all the organizers. |

We planned a ~1 week The Netherlands holiday including X-2012 dates with Hydgoren/Glance, even with our wives. Maybe, other Turkish sceners join us as well. We may arrive before the party and/or stay afterwards. We'd like to hang out (over ;)) with local sceners. I can give you the details a few weeks before the party. |

Btw. hey X orgas, regarding what Angel of Death is asking - how about making this a little bit more organized activity, some kind of a 64 flea-market? ;) Maybe reserving some space and/or time for such thing? hello everybody.
I am planning to drive to X2012 from Italy (hopefully I won't come empty handed and contribute to the releaes), but since my wife wants to be there as well, then there is the problem of the kids.
This would be my first time to X, how would 2 young (4 and 1 years old) kids fit at the party place? I mean, is there place for them to run outside or inside. What about sleeping rooms? How are they organized? |

Sure, bring your kids.
About 200+ rolemodels drinking, swearing, puking and sweating.
And there's Deekay who is always in the mood talking about the birds and the bees accompanied with some colorful REU demo with animations.
To be honest, find an alternative for your kids.
X, or any other demoparty, isn't a place for young children to play. There a no facilities for kids.
Also for a lot of visitors, X is the bi-annual moment to escape from family life.
Call me rude but your idea is a bit naive.

Oh, and about the limit I can be short: there is none. We have over 240 beds available which should be enough. Generally only two third of the registered sceners actually show up. |

** NOTE, this post is for UK residents only ***
Sadly, my nearest scener friend (Maestro/Avatar) is unable to go this year. Our original plan would be to travel by coach, meet up at Leming's place, and all drive in one car to X (like we did last time). But now change of plan has given me another idea...
I am absolutely 101% prepared to go, and this time by driving there! The plan is to travel down the M1, meet up at Leming's place (a few miles from south London), stay there for one night, and then travel via Ferry (Dover to Calais) all the way to the the X party place.
If any sceners in the UK wants to join me (I have 3 spare seats in the car), then let me know here. On TWO conditions:
- £5 (or more if you want) to pay towards petrol ONLY.
- a very good sat-nav. ;)
I've saved enough money to afford all other travel costs, so this should help you.
I am willing to pick people up anywhere close to the M1, and most likely Manchester area as well (M62, M6). I've reserved the whole day off to picks guys up for this.
The date of pickup with be Thursday 25h October.
Let me know if you're interested please! :) ... and I may consider doing this! It will give me some experience on driving in foriegn countries too. (got to do it some day)
p.s. I'm a little nervous offering this... it's pretty much the first time I would do such a thing! |

I've been considering sort of shadow-organizing that traintrip, since I feel it's part of the X-perience.
The idea is probably to meet up at 13:00-ish at CS somewhere and take a train at 13:30 or something.
I'd have to figure out all the times first, though.

If just 150 guys want to eat something, it means 1,2 min. per serving. They must be faster than Magdonald. ;)
I required about this with the snack supplier and he tells me that they are able to service 15-20 persons in 3 minutes.
So if you order efficiently this will not pose a problem. |

The train ride doesn't take very long (about an hour?), and we'll need some kind of transportation from the local train station to the party place, since it's a bit too long to walk. Since the shuttle service doesn't start until 18:30 and the party place doesn't open until 19:00, taking a train as early as 13:00 sounds like a bad idea to me. How about an after-preparty in Amsterdam on Friday afternoon? ;-) |

A bunch of us Swedes will fly out already at 06:30 from Sweden, landing in Eindhoven around 8:30 or so, so I guess we will be somewhere pretty early as well. Let us know if you want to hook up and do something before the party opens up and gets going! /o/ We will probably find a bar and just have a Fernet or two... |

@x orgas: how safe is it to book some flights? problem is that weasel is only #323 on the list and it would be rather uncool to book a flight and then not be let in.. ^^
so when about will there be the gos or no-gos sent around? |

Quite frankly, the registration should have included a "percentage/probability" field. ...(should be adjustable at any time too). That would have given a better idea who's really going or not. Many have already said they can't go anymore... |

It is safe to book your flight as we have plenty of beds available. In the event that we are running out of beds we will provide an alternative. Also the renters of the partyplace offered assistence in case this scenario happens.
Make sure to show up on Friday if you want to be absolutely sure.

Guyz..ppl know nice & low price (but normal!) hotels in Eindhoven ? i believe this place called "Someren"
its a small village with no accomodations or very small
options to get accomodation (or ?) and how much time
by a train to go from the airport in Amsterdam to
Eindhoven central stations ?
|
| |
Cresh
Registered: Jan 2004 Posts: 354 |
It takes about two hours to get from Amsterdam to Eindhoven (by train).
If you do not really have to leave Amsterdam - stay in there!
Do some sightseeing & party!
There are plenty of guys who want to do pre-X party in AMS. |
| |
Sander
Registered: Jan 2002 Posts: 496 |
The train trip takes about 1.5 hours from Amsterdam to Eindhoven. From Eindhoven to Someren by bus takes app 30 - 35 minutes. From there you've to walk from the bus stop to the partyplace, which would take some time aswell. You'd pass through the legendary sceners' town Lierop aswell ;)
Alternatively, like in other years, the organisers offered a pickup service from Geldrop, which you can reach by train from Eindhoven, and takes app 15 minutes.
You can check this site: http://9292.nl/en
Someren has a few accommodations, but it's a really small village. I wouldn't recommend staying there before the party. |

We are not refusing anyone. The worst that can happen is that we run out of beds. So if you arrive on Friday there won't be any problem as beds are distributed on a first come first served basis.
And if we happen to run out of bed we will come up with an alternative.

Well the partyplace is located about 30km from the city of Eindhoven. They ofcourse have a swimming pool, playground etc.
One of the better recreational spots in the vicinity though is "de efteling". Go to this website for more information: http://www.efteling.co.uk/eftelingen.net
Imho, it is the best amusement park in The Netherlands although expensive. Perhaps they have some cheap last minute offers including stay. It is about a one hour drive from the partyplace.
Alternatives can be found here: http://www.dagjeweg.nl/noord-brabant
Perhaps google translate can help you out there.

Worst case we can drop you of on the train station Heeze where a train heads for Eindhoven. I would seriously consider sleeping at the partyplace though. It is less comfortable but saves a lot of time and money. |

what i have already written on facebook:
it would be cool if you orgas could adjust the time-table a little bit.
because this way i doubt there will be a demo-compo at 23pm, and almost no one is going to vote or see the prize-giving again - as happened at x'2010.
maybe somehow it could be possible to start at least one hour earlier by any chance?
thats just my little wish-list :)

@yazoo: We have adjusted the timetable slightly in comparison with last year. It is very hard to plan for diner, 3 compo's, voting, pricegiving and a performance + some time in between.
Diner is early at 17:30 and after that the program is a rollercoaster. So we tried but this is the best we can do. |

Start compos earlier, break with the dinner then have the finale and around 23:00 you have voting and ceremony + party. |

@tim: i know - life is hard for organizers - as we have organized two oxyron-parties in 2007 and 2008. we also struggled with the time-table regarding the compos - and we had to deal with alot of complains because half of the crowd was sleeping until the voting started. :( so i feel with you.
if we would organize another party we would plan to start with the compos much earlier to avoid that. the demo-compo is the most important one (for most people i guess) - so it would have high priority for me to make sure that everyone can see it, vote - and then get to know about the results.
that could maybe mean on the other hand that the music-competition (or gfx competition) would have to take place before the dinner / in the afternoon. that sure will not make all the musicians happy - but on the other hand the demo-compo could start much earlier.
well, hard to make everybody happy - i know. and i am happy that you guys keep providing all of us with such a great party-series, so i shouldnt complain too much.

Nope. One of the problems of being in a rural area is that the internet connection is crap. So whatever bandwidth we have is dedicated to scenesat.

@yazoo: You are right, it is impossible to satisfy everyone for the full 100%. We have tried our best to make it an unforgetable event and hopefully we will succeed in surpassing previous editions. |

Thanks for the party!
Can someone please align the release dates for the graphics and music entries properly? As it is now some entries were released on saturday, others on sunday. IIRC both compos were held on the saturday, making that the proper release date... or? |

I've just set the release date to the 28th, since it was shown on the 27th but not released out to the public yesterday. (Sounds logic ?) |
| |

A whole bunch of entries still have the 27th as release date. (And some weren't "made available" until the 29th, for that matter...)
I was basically wondering if it was possible for someone with more DB access to do this as a batch job. |

what a fucked up music compo result. some useless noise in the top, and good tunes low. also a weird result in gfx compo... democompo, is ok i guess, but i think hitmen should have won, just for the sake of being different and daring new stuff.
good party anyway!
now it requires 1 week of restitution :) |

I know at least Censor wanted to fix stuff (i.e. the demo crashing mid-second diskside, leaving several parts out) before having their demo released. |

I remember there was a charger on the table when I packed my stuff up... it was a thin one with a blue LED? Last time I saw it was on the bench towards the wall. ... hopefully no one picked it up other than organisers. |

hi everyone,
at last, i lost my demoparty-virginity!
*violin-music*
oh boy, it was a blast....
hat off, and a deep bow for the organizers, the compo-participants, the guy who kept kicking everyone's arse in whatever game you'd prefer, the soldering-wizards, the merchants, the chefs, and everyone else... including that orchestra next door which emphasized how much our party rocked haha, what a contrast....
was nice meeting all of you, thank you for tolerating my noobism(s) :) hope to see you again in 2014!

Great people, great party, great atmosphere.
Had really nice chats with sceners I already knew. Met some great new people too and had a great time chatting with them.
For the Friday night I suggest to have the performances extended: after Jeroen Tels set, the basement went empty quickly because of lack of entertainment.
Sure, there were some SIDs played on the fly but I think someone on stage doing stuff keeps people longer inside. I.e. at Evoke people stayed dancing until 5.30 in the morning.
I volunteer for DJ-ing (again) at X'2014 and put some electro/8-bit/scene tracks on the decks for the friday night afterparty :-)
Nevertheless: great party. Wouldn't have missed it. |

Thanks alot to Ziphoid/SceneSat for doing such a great X-2012 show.
Thanks to everyone at SceneSat for supporting the scene and doing such great live shows!
Here are some "Cable" Highlights from Ziphoid X-2012 Live show:
Ziphoid talking to IRC: "Magic, It's a cable because they put it there, they need to conect the new cable to the projector and that how it is, you have to life with the cable, according to the organizers thats one thing, if you don't want the cable, come to the party. Thats how it is."
Ziphoid cable slogans Live from X-2012:
"The year of the cable"
"The cable strikes back"
"This is the cable party"
"And the next demo in the cable party compo"
"In a world where the cables rule the earth"
"Just a ordinary cable, but this cable has a mission"
" Welcome to the cable"
" Cables are good, cables are bad.
"In the last hours, the most used word, must be CABLE"
"Where are all the cables goooone?"
"The CABLE PARTY this is X"
" It will still feature the cable"
"What you people say so fare? Has the cable done good?"
"The cable still ruuuules..."
I wrote this down from the file downloaded at SceneSat: Ziphoid_-_X2012_weekend_part_2_-_20121027.mp3
This really did entertain me during watching the Live Show from X-2012, even there was breaks, Ziphoid did know how to entertain the people.

Seems the cleaning company took care of the lost'n'found in the end unfortunately.
This party started out a bit slowly for me (what's up with just the buzz of people talking on friday? I was missing the puming SID action in the party hall :D). Had a long day, very short on sleep.
But on saturday, you guys cranked up the tempo! Awesome. Great vibe, good feel, the salmiakki helped too, plenty of smokers. And the competitions....... hotdarn!! That was awesome!
Till next time :D |

At almost every X-demo-competition I have been, I´ve been thinking: ´ok, this is the max for our c64, there won´t be anything more impressive from now on´...
And every ´X´ I´m proven wrong. Amazing demo´s, you guys!!!!!!!! Hitmen and Oxyron... Fairlight, Censor and Offence... Throw in a comeback of Abnormal and all other participants... And what you have is a long, but oh-so-entertaining night of demo´s. Really makes me proud of still being part of the 64-scene... (to a bigger or lesser extend!!)
And what an amazing works of art in the graphics-competition! Though I used to enjoy the graphics competitions more when I wasn´t wondering about whether or not things are converted... That is not to say you don´t need any skills for making a 64-piccy nowadays!! As a GFX´er myself, I would like to mention Duce´s picture... Absolutly Loved it!! Also Electric was good. And PAL ofcourse. And the rest also!! ;-)
Last but not least, the SID´s were also of high quality. Still unbelievable what you can extract from a SID-chip with 3 voices... Some people have 25 synths, ProTools and a shitload of FX and still they can´t beat what these SID-guys accomplish.
All in all, a great party with great people who share the compassion for a great 8-bit machine!! Loved it from the start (and I was there VERY early:), right till the end.
Thanks all of you 64-lovers and see you all in 2 years!!! |

And a very special thanks to all the people that spent their hard-earned cash in my 'shop'. It will be going to a good cause.
To the orgaz: I once again take my hat off for you!
Hope to see all of you (and more) in two years. |

Great X as usual!
A few questions that I'm wondering about...
What was the reason for ComaLight 13 to be listed as Another Demo/??? on the voting disks?
Has the composer of Luder8580 been identified? I liked the tune a lot, as well as the title, which sounds like something Jeff could have come up with, but he denies it was him. :)

What hell of a party. Has been really fun to meet all the guys I already knew and to meet some new people.
We have tons of incredible releases in all categorie and what really amazes me is that there is no single entry that really sucks that much that I never want to see it again. In this amount I'd expect at least one entry like converted fotograph of somebodies ass :-)
So nice to see that massive amount of love and passion for the C64. This scene is bestest of 'em all!!! =) |

I wasn't the one with the shirts. (though they had a nice looking real kind of 'shop')
I was the one somewhere in the middle with the boxes of tapes, cables and hardware of slightly dodgy origin. :)
ps.
We should actually meet up some day so we will recognize eachother on one of these parties. Should be easy because, as I believe, you live about 20 km's from me. |
