Ultimate Screenfader thread
Hello, my name is Anonym, and I am addicted to screen faders. You know those (sometimes not so) little effects that get you from the loading screen into the demo. I'm not looking for a self-help group at this point, but rather a collection of the best screen faders. I searched far and near but haven't found one yet?
Which productions have memorable screen faders that you like? |

I'll actually kick this off with one fader where I don't recall the production it was in, it was an early demo... You typed run and a little man (about a cursor high) would come in and push the screen to the side so it was replaced by black characters. Anyone recall the product this one was in? I want to say it actually was a compunet demo, but I cannot recall for sure. |

That one is really cool, like it. Next step up to maintain the colours of the text on the BASIC screen ;-) |

I saw it on the compo and thought the effect is done in the beamer. There was a lot of pause before the demo started so I thought the beamer guys got bored and playing around :) |

Thank you for these.
Deus Ex Machina : Great, even in the sideborder and maintaining character colours. Gotta love that. Also like the monitor turning off effect after the intro part.
Decade 100% : Yep the laser burning the logo is great with the sparks. Would have been even better if the depacker would have not had any effects. The transition to the Smash Logo could have been done nicer in my eyes.
Artillery 100% : Tetris style pieces to fall of the screen and reveal a logo. Beautiful.
Continuum : So cool, sideborder too. Bonus points for that as always :) Had to watch it a couple of times, as it's so fast.
The Last Truckstop 3 : Ninja star. Stuff zooming in is great, too. Man and I love this Last Ninja style intro, too. |

Looked at some more Shape demos for this topic specifically and this one really stood out for me:
The Doors of Perception
Converting the BASIC screen into hires, using sprites to set the picture over it and then dropping the remaining characters. Wow. |

The one in the latest Atlantis release is cool, too. I like how smooth the screen moves to the back and how it's integrated into the beginning of the demo:

Don't know if this counts, but the anim-part of the intro of ES1RA is a really nice one I think.
Ok, if you stick to "what happens to the basic screen", then there's "only" a col-fade out. But the animation kicks in rather close to it;) |

Ah, just realized that I did some fade-out from basic screen myself, in The Other Lines (though it's just for a picture display, for sure not on par with the other examples given earlier!). |

Quoting anonymGotta love all border faders. On that note... the rules don't seem to say anything about video system.
And... some things are possible in NTSC and PAL-N but not PAL-G, especially in the all-borders department.
So, is the choice of video system arbitrary? Asking for a friend! =)
Edit: Ah, this should have gone directly to some Transmission64-related thread. So sorry. :) |

Two of the best demos on C64 when it comes to screen to screen / part to part transforming are:
Edge of Disgrace
Coma Light 13
I assume that is what you mean by Ultimate Screenfader FX ? |

@Wile Coyote: I guess the topic is rather about "basic faders".. what happens when you type "RUN" and lean back to enjoy the demo, and how the "basic" screen turns into a demo :).
Edge of Disgrace is actually worst in class in that genre.. super boring!!
I also just realized that i woke up this thread after two years of sleep, sorry about that.. i really don't know how i ended up here.. but it *is* a great topic :) |

Excuse the self-whatever ;) but I feel I did quite a good job with the one in E2IRA ;)
I know due to it's character it's a "forced" one (not based on "dynamic" starting point) though... |

I've always loved the beginning of Smash Designs' Triage 5 . Slowly laser cutting the upcoming logo's shape onto the BASIC screen while the slightly haunting intro of Sonic's Vibralux is playing is just magical.

Self-promotion, and maybe what we did here was a little too obvious, but we just dropped the screen in 3-char-wide columns one-by-one in No Bounds .. |

great thread! I have been checking out these BASIC faders.
I liked the BASIC screen falling away in slices in no Bounds and the intertwined text scroller.
I liked the checkerboard fader in diversidty #1.
I liked the fader in Andropolis that erased and redrew the BASIC screen horizontally.
I didn't see a BASIC fader in Schizarrion or ES1RA but the rotating face cube is really cool.
I liked the hi-res color graphics taking over BASIC in Doors of Perception and the text melting around it.
And Triage V has an awesome Fx with a blaster drawing shapes on the screen.
Amplifire has a fantastic BASIC screen spinning Fx and I loved the Tetris effect in Artillery!
Here is my BASIC fader demo from FOReVER 8-bit Edition 22 with multiple fader fx and a splash text screen:

But you read what Ano sees as a "Screenfader" on post #1 here, did you SQL?
So - there is NO fader on your self promotion thingy at all. And I am sure thats not just an IMHO - more in PM. |

Yes Ano describes the BASIC loading screen fading into the demo. My demo does this in three stages:
The loading screen starts to change from the center.
Sections of the loading screen are blown up by lasers.
Sections of the screen are cleared by border Fx.
Some sections of the BASIC loading screen never fade which I agree is different. Are you suggesting a fader has to fade the entire screen? |

Just a small point, because I was looking into the SID, and Vibralux.sid didn't quite sound right.. I think it's the other song by Sonic, Starsign.sid that opens up the demo. (which is very haunting) |

Ah, of course, thanks for the correction! I just remembered that Vibralux was in the demo, but didn't double check if it actually starts it, and indeed it seems to be on the second disk side. :) |

Love the Biba2 one too. The other one is nice, but for me it's missing the transmission to a single colour kinda - or at least the part after the mushroom appears isn't as effectful. |

Not sure, but you may be able to spot one or two decent faders in any Bonzai demo from 2018 and up. Bromance and Unboxed spring to mind. Nothing as brilliant as what was already mentioned, but still nice enough for me to want to boast on behalf of the group :) |
